JEE Mains Counselling

Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) will conduct JEE Main counselling and seat allotment for all the qualified and eligible candidates. To participate in counselling and seat allotment of JEE Main candidates will have to register to JoSAA in online mode. JEE Main counselling and seat allotment process will commence tentatively from June/July. The counselling and seat allotment of JEE Main is conducted based on the candidate’s merit, preference of choices and availability of seats. During the JEE Main seat allotment, JoSAA will first allot the seats in two mock rounds. These mock rounds will help candidates to know the seats, they could be allotted on the basis of their choices filling in JEE Main. National Testing Agency (NTA) will be conducting JEE Main two times a year. Candidates can either opt for April or May JEE Main exam or they can also attempt both of them. The best score out of the both will be taken into consideration. The application form of JEE Main for exam was available from 1 March to March. However, the last date to pay the application fee, upload the signature and photograph was March.

Mentioned below is the counselling and seat allotment of JEE Main for different category candidates in different institutes:

For Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs)

All India - It is open for all candidates

For National Institutes of Technology (NITs)

  • Home State candidates – Open only for those candidates who have the same state code of eligibility as that of the institute.
  • Other State candidates – Candidates not from the home state will belong to the other state.

For Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs)

  • For Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi and IIEST Shibpur- candidates from home state and other state.
  • For Assam University – All India and home state candidates
  • Other GFTIs – Only All India candidates

Follow the mentioned below steps to participate in JEE Main counselling and seat allotment:

Step 1 – Online Registration

To participate in JEE Main counselling and seat allotment, candidates will have to register to JoSAAin online mode by entering roll number and password.

Step 2 - Online Choice Filling & Locking

Fill and lock the choices in order of the preference of colleges and B.Tech programmes. Based on the choices filled seat allotment will be done.

Step 3 – Seat Allotment

Based on the availability of seats, merit and preference entered, candidates will be allotted seats. However, before the actual seat allotment, mock allotment will be done in two rounds. This will allow candidates to know the seat allotment process and also enable them to know and choose better preferences for themselves in the main rounds.

Step 4 – Payment of Fee & Seat Acceptance

Once the seat is allotted, candidates will have to choose any one of the following options :

  • Freeze– If candidates are satisfied with seat allotted to them and do not wish to participate in further rounds, they will have to choose this option.
  • Float– In case, candidates need to keep the seat allotted and also wish to upgrade their seat, they must follow this option.
  • Slide– If candidates accept the seat allotted and wish to upgrade the course in the same institute, they will have to stick to this option.
  • Withdraw– If candidates have already accepted the seat, they can withdraw the seat by reporting at the institute allotted before the last round of seat allotment.

To confirm the seat, candidates will have to pay the fees through SBI Net Banking or e-Challan. The seat acceptance fee (SAF) is Rs 45,000 for all the candidates except SC/ ST/ SC-PwD/ ST-PwD/ GEN-PwD/ OBC-NCL-PwD. Candidates who belong to SC/ ST/ SC-PwD/ ST-PwD/ GEN-PwD/ OBC-NCL-PwD categories will have to pay Rs. 20,000 as SAF.

Step 5 – Verification of Documents

Candidates will have to get their documents verified at the help centres. The following documents need to be produced at the time of verification:

  • 3 passport size photographs (the same as uploaded during registration)
  • Provisional JoSAA seat allotment letter
  • Photo identity card
  • Proof of seat acceptance fee payment
  • JEE Main Admit Card
  • Date of birth proof
  • JEE Main Score Card
  • Class XII Mark sheet
  • Category certificate (if applicable)

Step 6 – Final Reporting at the Allotted Institute

Once verification is done, candidates will have to report at the allotted institute and pay the balance fees in the institute, confirm the admission.

JEE Main Special Round Counselling

After completing the Josaa counselling, the authorities conduct the JEE Main 2024 Special Round Counselling. The JEE Main special round counselling will be held for admission to NITs, IIEST, IIITs, and GFTIs. To participate in the special round counselling, candidates have to register separately for CSAB.
